Georgi Georgiev: The Supreme Administrative Court Stopped the "Green" Lobby. The Struma Motorway Will Be Completed!

Georgi Georgiev: "BRAVO! The Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) stopped the 'green' lobby. The last appeal from the 'Greens' has been rejected. The Struma Motorway will be completed!" announced GERB MP Georgi Georgiev from Sandanski on his Facebook page.

"The Greens, partners of PP-DB, are the same ones who paralyzed the motorway on their last working day. If it weren't for them, the Struma Motorway would already be finished. Aren't they supposed to be Europeans? The European Commission has informed them SEVERAL times that the project in the gorge complies with all green requirements. Now we can expect the completion of the Struma Motorway only by 2030, although GERB will push for it to happen sooner. Even though it's late, time has proven that GERB was right!" Georgiev added.

The Supreme Administrative Court has rejected the appeals of the Greens. The Struma Motorway will be completed. In a final decision dated August 30, 2024, the SAC allowed the preliminary execution of a decision by the Minister of Environment and Water, Petar Dimitrov, determining that no new Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is needed for the construction of the Struma Motorway via the G10/50 route from Kulata to Sofia through the Kresna Gorge. A valid and enforceable EIA has been in place since May 2023, according to Eco News.

This SAC decision concerns one of 14 cases filed based on appeals by green non-governmental organizations opposing the completion of the Struma Motorway. The specific complainants against the administrative act by the Ministry of Environment and Water are the "Association of Parks in Bulgaria," founded by Toma Belev, and the "Balkani Wildlife Society," led by Andrey Kovachev, a former co-chair of the Green Movement party.
